Oh.em.gee when I saw these shorts … I am certain I resembled a child in a candy store ha-ha! I. LOVE. animal. print – is an understatement. I remember the exact moment I discovered my new profound love for animal print and surprise, surprise it was prompted by Bollywood cinema 😉 Specifically, the stunning Shilpa Shetty in her red leopard print separates ensemble from Main Khilad Tu Anari in the song ‘Chura Ke Dil Mera’ I was five years old… Now, picture a brown mother’s reaction when her five year old daughter tells her that she wants to take nappy time in kindergarten wearing knee high boots with a matching leopard print crop top and mini skirt in bright RED! Ha-ha – pretty priceless, let’s just say I got my ass handed back to me and waited a good 10-12 years before I wore any sort of print..
Anyway, back on track only someone with a strange inspirational story similar to mine could only understand my reaction at the point when I spotted these shorts. When you see zebra, leopard and reptile print on one article of clothing that is not Roberto Cavalli, done tastefully and costs ONLY $15… yeah you have a moment silence, than burst into excitement – who knows maybe even tears and lastly you do a dance as ridiculous as Chandler Bing’s with the stupidest expression on your face. Sometimes… I leave myself speechless.
So I wore this outfit to work today and my main objective when I style myself for a work day is to obviously incorporate pieces that I have purchased from the store, always be comfortable for my entire eight hour shift (options to add layers if the AC is too strong, easy layers to remove if the visual floor set is kicking my butt, back up sandals/flats, a chocolate bar maybe lol, etc…) and most importantly dress to represent the brand. I work at BCBG by the way and the overall appeal for the brand is very streamline –clean silhouettes, lots of neutral color palettes, longer hemlines, conservative yet sexy. We obviously have a dress code, although the days I do visual merchandising (today) I can wear whatever my little heart desires. Hence, I still incorporate a BCBG piece or two into my outfit; now let’s break this bad boy down!
I began dressing myself this morning with the most prominent feature of this particular look, my steal of a deal, extremely cute and comfortable shorts. Rather than doing a simple tank top/ t-shirt in black or white, I incorporated a darker wash, slightly more fitted chambray shirt which adds overall interest to the look and a pop of color and balance to the prints. Rather than doing anything fancy with the shirt such as tucking it in or tying a knot at the bottom, I did up all the buttons and simply pulled it over my shorts. I paired my fairly basic outfit at this point with an oversized, black belt over my chambray shirt and studded black wedges. I accessorized with an owl necklace that I bought for 60 cents … (RIGHT?!), a stack of silver, gold and black bangles on one hand and my watch, a wrap bracelet and a spiked bracelet layered on the opposite hand. As I was leaving for the door, I spotted my trilby hat, threw on a bad-ass red lipstick and my aviators! J Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading!
