#CANNES2015: Bollywood Bomb-Shells (PART 2)

Regardless of how much I bashed Katrina Kaif in my previous round-up on #CANNES2015 (Click HERE to read, if you haven’t done so already) I truly admire the random handful of actresses/models who attend Cannes from Bollywood. These beauties are fortunate to have designers from all platforms to choose from and it is such an indescribable feeling to see Indian designers talent and their love for the art of design being spotlighted on a universal stands. Muses like myself are always on our toes and we get to see a bit of the traditional western gowns, innovative Indian styles and sometimes even fusion combinations. The mavens and one particular veteran of phenomenal style in PART 2 of my Cannes review shocked me, blew my little god damn mind away and left me in complete awe. AND just to add that extra sugar, spice and all things nice to your fine Monday morning, here are my heart-felt thoughts and real talk flare up 🙂

Having to accompany stars such as Sonam, Aish and even Katrina; you would think one does not stand a chance. Well, this Ram Leela beauty with an exceptional keen sense of style, flaunted some legendary designers and classic take on her individuality for this year’s Cannes festival. For her first appearance she chose an abstract printed Giles dress which she paired with minimal details – dainty gold necklace, fresh beauty op, cute bun and nude pumps. I personally would have changed up my hair for this look BUT aside from that miniscule detail; she looked lovely and fitting for her photo call appearance. With her second look she pulled on every fashionista’s heart strings in a beautiful Sabyasachi floral infused saree complemented with a glamorous, glitzy blouse. No complaints here … she resembled a desi goddess!

RichaChadda_Cannes2015_1Aside from her amazing Sabyasachi saree, I thought she completely slayed her look at the Cannes after party in a bold suited ensemble by Giles Deacon. I LOVED the hummingbird detailing on her jacket, paired with a brilliant bright lip and effortless up-do. STUN-ER. Her final Cannes appearance was at a Dior dinner and she chose an ultra feminine pink and red dress. Not my favorite outfit on her but definitely gotta show her some love for being a chameleon and carrying this look rather perfectly! Stepping outside of her boundaries, Richa Chadda embraced confidence, versatility and uber chic-ness. Put this bombshell on your radar style files list ❤

RichaChadda_Cannes2015_2– SONAM KAPOOR –

YES. She may not be the most talented actress but there is no denying that she takes the throne for out of the ordinary, unique and all around impeccable style. B-town’s favorite fashionista is the women of all my hours for Cannes; her style presence at the film festival is one I await as she truly steps up her A-game to another level of fabulous glam. Starting her first day of press conferences on a fresh, innovative and ultra sexy note, Sonam rocked a custom-made saree summer dress by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. In a stunning harmony of lace, sheer insets and RUFFLES, she was quite the delectable treat for the peepers AND I was left at a complete loss of words when I saw her in this ever so gorgeous creation. What’s seriously not to love? Check out the attention to detailing in her overall look and that blouse; wowza!

From fresh neutrals to a eccentric colors in a heart-beat and whilst I was still sinking in her first ah-maze-ing outfit, she made her first red carpet appearance in a Ralph and Russo cobalt couture number. From her gorgeous brown locks, (talk about some major hair goals) to her colored orange lips and the voluminous, deep sweet-heart neckline gown itself, Sonam was the epitome of perfection.

Now, this particular look I’m completely indifferent about – I don’t hate or love it. Although, I have ALWAYS admired the combination of gold and black as I feel like it is a color sequence that instantly associates to royalty and one that is near impossible to make a loud statement with. Captioned as “butterfly couture” on Rhea Kapoor’s Instagram account – one can simultaneously notice the exaggerated butterfly sleeves on Sonam’s secondary Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla couture number for Cannes. At first glance, I was like that’s rather interesting, the detailing and craftmanship on the entire body is truly exquisite but as I flipped through more images …. I realized it just didn’t tickle my fancy. I attempted playing the justification game to convince myself that I love it AND the final verdict … Meehhhh.

Sonam_Cannes2015(3)AND last and least =| Eeeeeek. This look was a joke. I was blown away at the fact that Sonam stated she felt like a princess in this Elie Saab number for her second appearance on the red carpet. Now, I knew that this was going to create quite the frenzy and controversy on the internet so I waited it for it and literally LOL-ed at some of the associations and ridiculous comments people were making. “Is that moss? Not Kate, like actual MOSS?” “Is she dusting the floor at Cannes?” “Big Bird” “Is she wearing Anil Kapoor’s chest hair” – This one killed me, err. mah. gawd. AND of course it was compared to Riri’s Met Gala omelette dress (Which, I actually didn’t think was as brutal as Sonam’s choice) Final thoughts – FAIL. Not Cannes or red carpet appropriate EV-ER. Oh Sonam … please hurry and rock all of our socks with your next appearance and remind all your fans as to why you are B-town’s favorite fashionista. Ok thanks.

AND that is an actual wrap !! Oh man … I have that instant bittersweet feeling as Cannes is one red carpet affair I await all year and spend countless hours on the internet just scoping through, lusting over and sharing my opinionated thoughts with the world. But hey there is always next year … 🙂 Have a fabulous Monday everyone!

  1. Totally agree with you! Loved Richas looks at Cannes. And Sonam started off great..and then ended on a really disappointing note.

A very well written post 🙂
