#BTS | ‘Naagin’ Inspired Editorial feat. Bharti Art Jewellers

Few weeks ago, if you follow me on Snapchat (sososonam) 😉 you would know that I was a model/assistant stylist and a key visionary behind a grand jewellery editorial featuring Bharti Art Jewellers for the upcoming issue of a local South Indian publication – Celebrations Magazine. This editorial was the brainchild of Parvesh (Raasleela by Parvesh Jai) and I. Although it was our ‘pet’ project, of course a team effort and the perfect compilation of go-getters, doer’s and experts in their respective fields are compulsory to bring such a spectacular vision to life. Caught your attention I hope? Oh keep reading, it just gets better.

 – OUR INSPIRATION –

NAAGIN – a critically acclaimed Indian soap opera series depicting the conventional tale of a female cobra. She is disguised as a bombshell women by the name of Shivanya, played by the gorgeous Mouni Roy who is on the quest to settling scores for her parents murder. Walking along the path of revenge she of course stumbles upon love.

– OUR VISION –

Incorporating our core inspiration of ‘Naagin’ Parvesh and I aligned our creativity bubbles by putting our own sultry and fierce spin on the renowned tale. We began by brainstorming our love story angle and gave life to the story of a vicious female serpent who eventually transitions into a women as she is graced by the touch of love. Painting our black and white controversial saga with a bold color palette (bronze, golds, blacks and hints of  wine and scarlet reds) to be depicted through all of the core elements of the photo-shoot (set decor, clothing, jewellery and makeup looks) was checked off our to-do list next.

As I compiled a collection of inspiration images to share with the hair and makeup artist (Bal Bhatti from Gorgeous Glow) and the impeccable set decor artists (Charming Affairs Decor), Parvesh sketched the three phases of our story to be captured by the main man behind the lens (Silvester Law Photography). We confirmed our male model lead – Keshav Khanna shortly after and was now on the most challenging and final stride – the quest to find the perfect local jeweller. Parvesh made his local stopovers and I bolted through Instagram searching near and far; nothing tickled our fancy. At last, we stumbled upon Bharti Art Jewellers and that very moment we were certain that our vision would go far beyond then what we had initially envisioned. We were pleasantly flabbergasted as this was going to be a creative collaboration for the books!

-MAKEUP BY BAL BHATTI OF GORGEOUS GLOW –

Mindful to the concept of our shoot and exploiting our coordinated color palette, Bal chose an overall eccentric and sultry look for me. She painted my canvas to perfection with ample contouring and highlighting to achieve a chiseled and bronze appeal. My massive peepers were adorned with an intensified classic smoky eye, extraordinary winged liner and complementary falsies. She opted for luscious voluminous curls and transitioned my chappers from nude to red to a deep plum throughout my outfit and jewellery swaps. As for Keshav’s look, she applied foundation and concealer to his canvas, a soft smoky liner to his eyes, spray tanned his upper body and contoured his abs to ensure an unblemished finish.  What Parvesh and I simply adore about Bal is that she values our vision, has tremendous respect and trust in our work and applies her own personal touch as a makeup and hair artist to ensure her work speaks volumes. Bal is efficient and gets the job done in a timely manner. AND most significantly she is a pleasure to have on set and share endless laughs with. We all make quite the dream team. #justsaying.
